Target Audience: RNs interested in learning more about legal nurse consulting and the LNC role in personal injury litigation
Description/Purpose: Participation in this online module will increase the learner’s knowledge on how the LNC thoroughly and effectively analyzed potential or in-suit personal injury claims.
Learning Objectives:
- Define the elements of proof in a personal injury action
- Describe the common affirmative defenses
- Identify the common experts utilized to establish damages
- Describe the legal nurse consultant’s role in personal injury litigation
- Identify the purpose of accident reconstruction in motor vehicle accident litigation
- Define torts and discuss the difference between intentional torts, negligence, and strict liability
- Identify other factors which may impact personal injury claims (other than the subject accident)
- Identify defenses that the law may allow against civil negligence
- Define causation and describe why it is important
- Compare plaintiff and defense LNC practice in personal injury claims
