Target Audience: RNs interested in learning more about legal nurse consulting in various settings
Description/Purpose: Participation in this online module will increase the learner’s knowledge on various settings for legal nurse consulting practice such as insurance and defense environment, in-house LNC, and independent LNC.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain the difference between first-party and third-party claims
- Identify the defense environment participants and the various factors to consider when evaluating the mechanism of injury and the clinical manifestations of an injury
- Identify effective arguments that will assist the defense team in mitigating damages
- Identify the pros and cons of working in-house and the economics of a law firm
- Summarize the role, ethical scope of practice considerations, and professional responsibilities of an in-house legal nurse consultant and identify the skills and attributes of successful in-house LNCs
- Identify the advantages and challenges of being an independent legal nurse consultant
- Describe services that independent legal nurse consultants provide for attorney-clients
