Target Audience: RNs interested in learning more about legal nurse consulting and the LNC role in correctional healthcare and civil rights matters
Description/Purpose: Participation in this online module will increase the learner’s knowledge of the LNC role in prosecution or defense of correctional medicine litigation.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the types of claims brought by incarcerated individuals related to healthcare service
- Recognize the differences between state and federal court claims, the burden required in each, and challenges to pursue such actions
- Identify the most common correctional facility medical issues that give rise to litigation
- Understand the defenses available to correctional medical claims
- Learn how the LNC can have an active, hands-on role in the prosecution or defense of correctional medicine litigation
Continuing Education: The American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants is accredited as a provider of continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
