Target Audience: RNs interested in learning more about legal nurse consulting and the concepts of informed consent and medical treatment decisions
Description/Purpose: Participation in this online module will increase the learner’s knowledge on informed consent and medical treatment decisions.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe informed consent and major issues related to the process of obtaining informed consent
- Identify major issues related to informed consent
- Describe the elements of proof in cases alleging a lack of informed consent
- Identify the differences in advance directives and differentiate between a power of Attorney and an Executor
- Summarize a minor’s rights in healthcare decisions and articulate standards for substitute decision-making when patients do not have the capacity to make decisions for themselves
