Target Audience: Clinically active LNCs with a solid nursing background in independent practice, RNs, and LNCs who work with experts
Description: Expert witnesses generally possess a specialized background in a particular area of medicine, nursing, or another discipline, including specific credentials and certifications. LNCs are challenged to understand how to find reliable experts both generally and in the area of expertise needed. Knowing the best methods for collaborating with experts will increase their effectiveness and save time and energy.
This four part online module will introduce the basics of when and why to use an expert witness, where to find the right expert for a particular case, and methods for vetting the expert. It will explore techniques for preparing the expert for plaintiff and/or defense cases such as: explaining the trial process; preparing documents for review prior to testifying; and role-playing for deposition or trial. The module will also reveal some of the common expert "billing pitfalls" and share best practices and sample documents to minimize billing disputes.
